勇 - MAaanly Men Are BRAVE

Readings & Meanings:

いさ(む)

ユウ

brave, courageous

Common Usage:

勇ましい

勇気

Examples:

勇ましい声をあげる。

皆の応援で勇気がでた。

Translations:

A courageous voice was raised.

Everyone feels more courage when they're being cheered.

Bonus:

Obviously we've got a man's kanji here. Not to say that women can't be brave. I'm just saying that 勇 has 男. Also, if you use it to describe a woman, please note that your reader/listener will think of her as a little masculine.

Take care to remember the マ up top. Don't know if it has a meaning.
