Readings & Meanings:
イク
そだ(−つ、−てる)
to bring up, to educate, to raise, to grow
Common Usage:
生涯教育
育てる
Examples:
生涯教育の一環として、お茶を習う。
鑑用植物を育てる。
Translations:
I'm taking tea ceremony classes as part of my life education.
I'm growing plants.
Bonus:
Time to talk about the なべぶた, or nabe lid radical. See the horizontal line on top with the little handle in the middle? That's the pot lid that is on, oh, just about EVERY kanji. (not really. It just seems like it.)
No real meaning added, that I can tell. It's just a descriptive way to talk about that area of many kanji.
