Translations:
Because I abandoned my bicycle, someone stole it.
Two days afterward, the woman who abandoned her child was arrested by the police.
Since the lady of the house next door was out, I left the gift next to the entrance door.
By the position of the stars, I can ascertain our direction.
The statue of our school's founder was established in front of the school building.
Radical:
We have on top "Amigashira", or the Net Crown radical.
The full form is 网, a pictograph of a net. When put into radical form, 网 is simplified into 罒.
(Most Japanese people would probably not know about Amigashira, and would just say it's a form of 四.)
直 is the rest of this kanji. The pictograph shows an eye in line with something. The meaning is "look straight ahead," and that is broadened into "directness, honesty."
I guess you have to place nets straight, or else they won't catch anything.
