追 - CHASE

Readings & Meanings:

オウ

つい

chase

Common Usage:

追いかける (おいかける)

追い風

追加

Examples:

"お魚くわえたドラ猫、追いかけて...裸足で駆けてく、陽気なサザエさん。"

コンピュータ産業は、今追い風で景気が良い。

ラーメンを追加して注文する。

Translations:

"Chasing the stray cat with her fish in its mouth... barefoot-running, silly Sazae."
(from the opening song of the anime of Sazae-san.)

Right now, the computer industry has caught a great tailwind.

We'll order another dish to go with the ramen.

Radical:

Shinnyou (辶) again, here adding a sense of movement (along a path).

The right element is an accumulation of objects, like in 官.

So we've got a heavy bunch of objects that can only be moved by dragging them behind you. Hence, follow, and hence, CHASE.

Bonus: Sazae-san

The example sentence that quoted from Sazae-san's song... well... you knew I had to post a video. It's the opening to this portion of the anime.
